Back at MTV Taiwan

MTV Taiwan is where it all began for me in Asia.  I was all set to begin my acting career in LA, but I had the unique opportunity to relocate to Taiwan to learn Mandarin and become a VJ for MTV.  This ad campaign for one of our concerts is still one of my favorite shots…

MTV

People always asked me how did my hair look so “plastic?”  Well, the hair stylist got some dry plaster and mixed it with water and orange paint before slathering it all into my  hair.  As difficult as it was to keep jumping on a tiny trampoline for this shot, I had an even more challenging time trying to get all the dried up plaster outta my hair!

Oh yeah…if you look really closely, you’ll also notice that I even ripped my white kung fu pants in the crotch area from all the crazy jumping!  Luckily, I was sportin a pair of rockin Mickey Mouse boxer shorts!  ;-)

Of course, most of the other MTV shoots weren’t too crazy.  Here’s a shot with the other VJ’s at the time including Miranda Lu, Janet Lee, and Stacy Lee (Sorry, but I forgot the guy’s name–Do you happen to know it?)…

The stylist for this shoot really liked big bright contrasting colors…

Wow.  That was definitely a while ago, but it still seems like yesterday.  I had a most memorable time adapting to living in Asia all by myself and learning the language and culture.  It was always fun to party with the MTV VJ’s and also the ones at Channel V including Angela Chow and Rick Tan…

And of course, how can I forget the original “Wu Man”…David Wu!! (Wait…is that the Fullerton Hotel in the background?  ;-) )

Chasin a Bank

I had a fun time driving and shooting around Hong Kong to shoot this TVC for Chase Manhattan Bank.

Luckily, Hong Kong isn’t too big!  ;-)

Horsin Around

LA Talent promo

Today I kinda got back in the “mix” of things with a promotional shoot for my modeling agency here.  It was nice to get back in front of the camera and shoot some shots with a horse in the background. ;-)

SDC11088

Shoots these days are definitely a lot easier with digital technology, and the only thing we really had to worry about was this horse named “Shadow.”  Before we began, we all had to sign Liability Release Waiver forms in the event that Shadow decided to make a more permanent impression on any of us.  I was chuckling to myself cuz this is something we would NEVER do back in Asia.  I’m not sure if it’s a good thing, but it’s nice to know how everyone literally covers their back here in the States.

SDC11090

Of course, Shadow definitely was the “star” of the day and made the shoot relatively smooth and easy for all of us…

SDC11093

Usually, I’m not a “big fan” of working with live animals and children cuz you really never know what you’re gonna get that day.  Luckily, there wasn’t too much “acting” involved today and Shadow didn’t have to memorize any lines so the only factor we really had to contend with was the scorching heat in San Dimas.

Here’s one final shot of the boyz of the day (Lamonica in the middle and Mark to the right)…

SDC11097

If you happen to have seen the new sport “Slamball” on AXN throughout Asia or Cartoon Network in the States, then you might recognize Lamonica as a member of the winning team Mobs from last season!  Not bad to be doing some modeling in the “off season!”  :-)

Your Face is like Tofu

Here is the first TVC I did in Taiwan for Ponds where I compare a girl’s face to tofu…

Would you take that comparison as a complement?? ;-)

One-on-One with Danny

SDC11081

Yesterday was a fun and memorable day.  My LAFD brother Danny and I went back to our high school gym to play some one-on-one basketball, which is something we haven’t done for many years since our  youth.

SDC11087

Normally, we’d just talk about how fun (and chaotic) it was to just get out there and “hoop it up.”  However, we really did it this time cuz Danny has a big “Nine Man” volleyball tournament this weekend in Chinatown LA…

SDC11022

For warmup, Danny was getting into “fighting fit shape” for his big return to the Nine Man volleyball tournament.  I have never actually seen the tournament before so I’m gonna try to drop by and check it out if I finish work early enough.  Once he was done smashing the volleyball, it was time to show me his silky smooth shot from beyond the arc…

SDC11043

…and then it was time to play a game of “one-on-one” to FIFTY by one’s and two’s.  Ouch.  We were both “suckin major wind” once we got to only double digits!  Nevertheless, it was a lot of fun, and I think we’re both just happy no one got injured cuz we ain’t no spring chickens anymore either!

Wonder who won this little contest in the end??  ;-)

Armed and Tactically Ready

08-25-2009 01;59;01PM

Back when I lived in Hong Kong, I not only got training in Wushu martial arts, but I got the full-on S.D.U. (Hong Kong version of S.W.A.T. team) special weapons tactical unit training for another movie.  Like most guys (and some women), I really enjoyed learning new skills that involved some military training.  I don’t think any of us had a problem firing off all sorts of semi-automatic and fully-automatic weapons in various tactical assault situations, especially when we got to train alongside Hong Kong actor Lau Ching Wan (First Row Second to the Right next to me)…

08-25-2009 01;59;55PM

Once all the ammo was popped off, it was time to disarm and derobe the assault gear for some partying.  Here we are minus the “makeup” and uniforms ( Andy On, Lau Ching Wan, David Lee, and Marco Lok)…

08-25-2009 02;01;37PM

I wonder if Kelly Lin and Cecilia Cheung preferred us in “civilian” clothes or the uniforms?  ;-)

Virgin Surfer & Durians in America

One thing that I’ve always wanted to try out was surfing.  And this past weekend, I finally gave it a try for the first time with my childhood friend James Pott and his son Noah…

SDC11012

…We had a great time catching up and catching some waves.  I now also know why surfers wear “rashguards” cuz I got nice dose of it all over my knees, thighs, and chest.  I’m sure I got it worse for being a first-timer.  Regardless, it was a lot of fun, and now I just need to figure out to start turning better…and prevent my face from getting charred under the sun.

Earlier today I also went to a Chinese supermarket and was impressed with myself for spotting out durians, “The King of Fruit,” in the fruit and vegetable section…

Photo0072

Not only was I surprised to see the fruit in the supermarket, I was even more surprised to see how fast they had been selling so I knew I had to grab one…

Photo0074

…for only a quick pic cuz I’m not exactly a big fan of this “fragrant” fruit! ;-P
